Best things in life...

Roller Derby is probably the best thing that has happened to me (besides losing my right arm at the age of 3). Sure it has it's ups and downs, and girls can be CRAZY, but I love it. All the girls, I love them. Every single one of them, they're like my sisters, I may not be best-friends with all of them, and some even get on my nerves, but altogether it's something very spectacular. Each girl has something totally unique about them that I can't get enough of.

We have 2 teams within the KC Roller Warriors. One is the Dogfightin' Dames, and the other team (the one I'm on) is the Bionics. We are currently forming a new team, they're name is yet to be announced. Our season starts March 19th. That's 3 weeks away! I think it will be the Dames against the Bionics again. We lost to them at the Expo Bout in January buy about 40+ points. Our Captain just had surgery and probably won't play in March. I hope we can pull off a victory, the girls have improved since and we have some really strong players, but so do they.

As I mentioned above, I was in a bus accident at the age of 3 and my right arm was amputated. I said it was probably one of the best things that has happened to me and I really mean that. I could not imagine life with 2 arms. YUCK! No, really, all joking aside I truly believe in Karma. I know I am a better person because of it. I can be so judgemental sometimes and very harsh about others' feelings that I have to remind myself that things are not always as they appear. I know people look at me in a way sometimes like I need help, or I'm not able to do something and they're sooooooo wrong. Life is mysterious, I was born on Dec 18th, my grandmother's birthday as well, and guess what.....she was born without a right hand. After my loss, she was there for me, giving me no sympathy and teaching me all I need to know to get by. I am far from handicapped (until there are no parking spaces close to the Grocery store door), I don't have a sticker on my car, no special driving instruments, no helping dogs (although I just got a puppy, and I'm looking for any excuse to bring him to work with me). I'm all on my own, and I have my grandmother to thank for it. She is a strong woman and I look up to her.

I guess this post turned out to be more about the women in my life than about the situations. So I guess my conclusion is that women are unique and special, every one of them, and that's what makes life so damn good.

This is a test post from Photobucket.com

Henry P. Jones

There's a favorite Library patron of mine, Henry P. Jones, he always calls me Angel. He came in today (wearing his teeth) and was looking at my face, saying I must be having a good time because of my zits. He asked if he could pop one, and I shoved my plastic fork in his face, threatening to stab him. "When a girl gets zits, it's because she's having sex." He explained.

Henry is quite a character, he worked in a fiberglass plant years ago in the industrial area of KCK, and there was an explosion, 1 man died and a few others were injured. Henry has 3 fingers on one hand and a fat bottom lip with a huge scar to prove it. He always has stories to tell me, like how the government poisoned his people (blacks) during the Vietnam war so they could not have children, his experience with a man he thought was a beautiful woman, the day his dog got ran over (tears always come to his eyes when he mentions it), and other stories he tells so fast and laughs through so I can barely make out the words. He's always bringing me something, old hard Ju Ju Bees, a wind-up musical Noah's Ark, an old decorative toxic Olympic plate, etc...

He drives a scooter he bought at Osco's (a drugstore), he pimped it out so it can top speeds of 30+ mph. He told me once he was attacked one night by a crackhead at 10th and Minnesota, so he hopped on his scooter and took off as fast as he could only to be pulled over 3 blocks away by a police officer for speeding (the speed limit is 20mph). He told the cop he was running from a crackhead, he got away with a warning, and a laugh.

Oh, Henry.

Let's see....

This is my first blog. Jumping on the bandwagon, I know. I've never done this before, and hopefully nobody will read this (considering there's thousands of bloggers out there to choose from), so I should be fine. At least for now.

I work at the Kansas City Kansas Public Library, as I have been for about 4 years now. It's okay, the patrons keep it interesting. Like today, I attempted to mount a Lysol can to the front of my cart to ward off rank smells. It did not work very well.

I have a puppy, I got him from the local "No-Kill" shelter about a week ago. He's a mongrel, his name is Merle. I'll post a picture of him as soon as I get home (My computer at work will not let me install even the smallest programs).

I am also co-founder of the Kansas City Roller Warriors LLC, an all-female flat-track roller derby league. I expect to have many stories about that in the future. There's all sorts of drama to chat about.

I'd like to keep this blog personal. My little secret I let out to the world, but not to my closest friends or family. If they want to know about this, they'll have to find out about it themselves.

I plan on using this as a journal, hopefully it will last more than a week. Well, ta ta for now, I'll be back soon.
